Land Raider #2 WIP: Free Hand Completed

I am almost there. The final details (Skulls, etc.) must be picked out. After that, the Land Raider will be ready for battle damage and weathering. At that point, she will be ready to destroy the enemies of the emperor in her righteous might!

I give credit for the self-made transfer technique to Ron at From The Warp. If you haven't yet ventured over to his blog, then you are really missing out.

One more thing, I am trying something new with the video. If I like it, I may begin doing more video in the blog.

As always, your comments are welcome.

Land Raider #2 WIP: Free Hand Blood Angel Iconography

Here is another sneak peek at Land Raider #2. I have started the free hand.

First things first, I used the Self-Made Transfer Technique which I learned from Ron over at From The Warp. If you haven't been over there to read and browse around, you are missing out. Ron has contributed more modeling and painting techniques to my hobby experience than any one other person. He is constantly producing quality 'How-To' material.

So, I pulled out the Codex and found the chapter banners. I took one of the images and altered it a bit to fit in the space that I am using on the Land Raider.

I cut the paper out to the size of the space where I wanted the image to go. I drew on with a pencil. Flipped the paper over and shaded the back with the same pencil. Then, I held the paper in place and traced it with a ball-point pen. The shading on the back transferred the image lightly to the surface of the tank. After that, I pulled out the paints and brushes and set to work.

At this point, I decided to take break and snap the photos for your enjoyment.

Land Raider #2 WIP: In the Beginning

I have started on Land Raider number 2. This one is the standard configuration: Twin-Linked Lascannon Sponsons and the Twin-Linked Heavy Bolters.

The end goal is that my Angels Sanguine force will have 4 Land Raiders at its disposal. I have actually worked up a list at 1850 points which uses all 4 Land Raiders, Mephiston, and some Termies. It should be a lot of fun. Of course that list has 3 bare-bones 5 man assault squads in Land Raiders for objective grabs.

I have a question for you all:
What is the name for this pattern of Land Raider? I have often heard it referred to as 'godhammer.' However, I think that this is actually the name of the twin-linked lascannon style attached to this Land Raider. Someone once told me that he thought it was called 'Phobos.' If you know about such things, please share your knowledge.

-Ciao

WIP Complete: Sanguinary Priest in Terminator Armor and Land Raider Crusader

I have been slacking on the photographs of some finished projects. So, here they are. I couldn't get the lighting quite right on some of the photos.

Land Raider Crusader WIP: Nearing Completion

Here are some progress photos. I am nearing the point where you add the battle damage. I paint the entire tank to the 'finished' stage, or 'showroom floor' stage, before adding the battle damage. For the best effect, a model should be painted exactly as it would look finished and was not going to have battle damage. If you try to cut corners by skipping stages of painting to get the battle damage in quicker, then the effect will not be nearly as convincing to the viewer's eye.

Hey, I took several more pictures, but they all came out blurry. So, I deleted them, and you will have to wait to see those angles.

Thanks for viewing. As always, your comments are welcome.

Land Raider Crusader WIP: Free Hand Angels Wings

I Feeling a bit improved from my sickness, I set to work painting. Inspired and empowered by Ron's work on From the Warp, I planned to apply some freehand to the top of my Land Raider Crusader.

The only thing better than delivering a large and deadly unit of Assault Terminators into the heart of an opposing force is delivering a large and deadly unit of Assault Terminators into the heart of the opposing force in style.

I used the self-made transfer technique which Ron shared with us. It worked perfectly.
-I picked out some Blood Angel Iconography from the Codex.
-I drew it on a piece of paper which I had measured and cut to the exact size of the space I wanted it to appear on the tank. I also drew a mirrored image.
-I turned the paper over and shaded the back with the edge of the pencil.
-I turned the paper back over, held it in place on the tank, and traced over with a ball point pen the image which I had drawn previously.
-The pencil shading from the back of the paper transferred the image I drew onto the surface of the tank.
-All that was left was to paint it.

It worked like a charm. I decided mid project to eliminate the blood chalices from the images. So, I have to decide how to finish the images off. Nevertheless, they are off to ta great start.

A Vision of Terminators

I really want to build a list that surrounds the following unit combination:

-5 Terminators with Lightning Claws
-Land Raider for Transport
-Dante tucked in behind the Land Raider until the time to strike

I really like the idea of the Terminators with the long Land Raider charging distance being supported by Dante. With Dante close by, they will get Preferred Enemy.

As a result, they will be rerolling to hit and rerolling to wound.
If I can keep Corbulo and the DC close, then they would be under the effect of Furious Charge, Preferred Enemy, Lightning Claws, and the long Land Raider charge.

The only problem is that this unit is a huge points sink. I still want to build a list around it and give it try!

A Tough Nut to Crack

A Land Raider can be a really tough nut to crack. They are all too common in the current Mechanized gaming environment.

The Land Raiders come in the standard variety, Crusader variant, and Redeemer variant. They are usually packed out with Assault Terminators, which adds to the frustration.

I have been thinking about how to deal with them, lately. I find that ignoring works well. Rather, I should say avoiding them. If I can coax them away from my main force, or away from the objectives, then I feel great. I only need drive around them or away from them with my fast vehicles.

Getting your opponent to commit to assaulting something usually ties up the Terminators and allows the battle to carry on without them. I think a sacrificial lamb is in order. If the Terminators tear through the sacrifice in the first round, then they are hanging out in the open for my Baal Predators to soften them up.

As far as actually shooting at the Land Raider, I use the Assault Cannons on the Baal Predator. With their rending feature, they can achieve an armor penetration value of 15. It might seem like a long shot, but I suggest you try it.

The thing that I do most is avoid the Land Raider. One unit or one vehicle can't cover every objective. Offer your opponent something to coax that rolling brick out of the center of the table, or away from the real action. Then carry on with the game in the Land Raider's absence.
